Native to the waters of Sulawesi, Indonesia, and extending to the Philippines and Ryukyu Islands

Size: 15-21 cm in length

Lifespan: 20-30 years

Physical Characteristics: The fish has an oval-shaped body that is flat on both sides. The head is small with no distinctive protrusions. The mouth is small with a fixed row of teeth on both upper and lower jaws. There are sharp spines on the dorsal fin and anal fin, but not extended beyond the body. The pectoral fin is nearly triangular in shape, while the caudal fin is either semicircular or concave inwardly. The body coloration varies from violet-blue towards yellowish at the rear end, with a white band below each eye extending downwards along the jawline to form a diagonal line above it. A crescent-shaped white patch adorns its snout tip.

The dorsal fins have black coloration with blue margins at their base that gradually thicken towards posterior ends; there are orange stripes on these fins as well. Caudal fins display pale gray-white colors internally adorned by yellow bands running along their inner edges leading upwards into shades of pinkish purple hues near their tips; they possess powdery blue perimeters around them.
