Seven-color Wrasse, also known as Acanthurus japonicus, originates from the waters of Sulawesi to the Philippines and Ryukyu Islands. It is commonly referred to as the "flowering wrasse" due to its vibrant colors. The fish measures 15-21 cm in length and can live for up to 20-30 years.
Its body shape is oval with a flat side profile, small head, small mouth with fixed teeth on both upper and lower jaws. Its dorsal fin and anal fin have sharp spines. The fins do not extend beyond the tail tip. Its chest fin is triangular in shape while its tail fin is almost round or slightly concave.
The Seven-color Wrasse has a purple-blue body coloration with yellowish hues on its backside. There are white markings under its eyes that slope downwards towards its snout which features a crescent-shaped white spot at the tip. The dorsal fin and anal fin are black with blue edges featuring a thick stripe at their base that becomes thicker towards the rear.
There's an orange-colored stripe running along the spine of the dorsal fin while its tail fin displays pale grayish-white coloration on one side and yellow stripes inside it ending in blue tones near its tips.
Lastly, there's pinkish-blue edging around all fins except for those near its gills which remain gray-black in color.
